Dremel Tool 8220 Review

Dremel offers a line of versatile tools including rotary and oscillating tools perfect for the the Do-it-Yourself jobs around your home. Their rotary tools are a hand-held power tool that when used with a range of available accessories can be used for a range of tasks including projects for repair, remodeling, and restoration. The rotary tool uses a spinning motion while an oscillation tool has similar applications but uses a rapid side-to-side motion to complete it’s tasks.

One of Dremel’s latest rotary tools is their 8220 model which offers a high performing, versatile tool. Here’s its product description: “The Dremel 8220 variable-speed cordless rotary tool offers the highest performance and versatility of all Dremel cordless rotary tools.

Dremel Tool Review

My husband is an avid DIY’er but often is lacking just the right tool to help him finish the job. We were thrilled to be able to check out the Dremel 8220 rotary tool. With Halloween right around the corner, I instantly thought carving a pumpkin would be the perfect first project with our new tool.

We started with my 2 year old’s teeny tiny pumpkin and used the dremel tool to cut out a pumpkin face! Next, we borrowed one of the templates from the Dremel website with a spider in a web design that my 4 year old loved.

We drew on the pattern and then got to work etching out the pumpkin rather than carving it to help the pumpkin last longer as we still have a lot of heat here in Arizona. It was a little bit hard to made lines that felt distinct when they overlapped even though they are different depths.

Still, it was fun to do something totally different as I’ve never only etched a design into a pumpkin. It looks pretty good and better in person than you can see here. In the future, I would choose a pattern that wouldn’t need to have overlapping lines if choosing to only etch and not have any cuts or holes.

The Dremel 8220 rotary tool was really easy to use and I caught on to using it really quickly. It shape and design makes it pretty easy to hold and it will be great for use in small and tight spaces on other projects when you don’t have room for a big saw or drill in your space. I know we will find tons of additional uses for our new rotary tool in the years to come.
