Birds Eye supports the new USDA MyPlate guidelines that suggests half of your plate be filled with fruits and vegetables. Currently, only 6% of the population meets the daily goal for vegetables so they want to spread the word to help consumers find easy ways to fill their plates with veggies! Birds Eye® offers more than 40 frozen vegetables including simple versions and even steamed options. They also offer veggie focused recipes with solutions categorized by time and topic!
When I was asked if I would like to spread the word on the new recommendations on behalf of Birds Eye it was really just as much a challenge to myself. I fall into the 94% that don’t meet the daily recommendations for vegetables and really struggle to actually find vegetables I like and incorporate them into the meal. I asked my husband to create a meal I would LIKE and that would meet the guidelines and he came up with stuffed bell peppers and salad! The peppers are stuffed with whole grain rice, sausage, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, mushrooms, and cheese. The whole meal was actually very delicious! I had no complaints at all that most of the meal was vegetables! I want to try Birds Eye’s Chicken Teriyaki Stir-Fry recipe next!
Birds Eye is also on a mission to help Feed Kits Better with their partnership with Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign! This is a national effort to help end childhood hunger in America by 2015. Birds Eye will be rewarding organizations that inspire communities and children to discover the wonder of vegetables with up to $20,000 in their Share the Wonder grant program.
