I received compensation for this post. All opinions are my own.

Location, Location, Location

A party of this nature works best in a large space. You want to be sure you have enough room to build a fort or put up a tent. Depending on how many kids you decide to invite, the larger your location would need to be. Once you have decided where and when your party is, send out your invites. Invites can be as simple as a phone call or you could mail out something fun. Make sure everyone understands that pajamas are required!

Party Prep

Now it is time to get everything ready. You will need to gather treats, and books, and supplies for building a fort. For my kids the fort building is a huge chunk of the fun! If I were you, I would let the guests build their fort. Because we kept our party a small family affair, we went with using our son’s tent in his bedroom. It creates the perfect ambiance for reading under the covers!

Like all parties, food is a must! We went with family favorites: Kettle Corn and Chocolate milk.

Our homemade Kettle Corn is always a hit and it is so easy to make! Here is what you need:

  • Air Popper (or a bag of popped microwave popcorn)
  • 1/2 cup of kernals
  • 1/4 a cup butter
  • 1/4 a cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 a cup sugar
  • about a teaspoon of water

I like to throw some salt on there too, but its not in my recipe.

1. Pop your popcorn.

2. Melt all the there ingredients in a sauce pan until it begins to get thick like a syrup. It will begin to froth as well.

3. Pour everything in a paper bag and shake it up until the popcorn is evenly covered. Little hands are the best at shaking in my opinion.

Any combination of snacks would be great. If you want to stick with a camping theme, make some S’mores or provide a big bowl of trail mix!

We encourage reading by reading. Every night, we read to the kids. If we get them into reading now, they'll love it for the rest of their lives.

What a great idea. If you can get kids to love reading now, they'll be better students later. Plus, reading is just fun!
