Oyster-Ginger Sauce Grilled Steak Recipe

Disclosure: I received compensation in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.

I get so tired of eating what feels like the same recipe night after night. So often, chicken gets prepared the same way and steak in it’s same manner that everything just starts to feel the same. This Oyster-Ginger Sauce Grilled steak recipe transforms a typical steak meal for me and really switches up the flavor bringing something new to the dinner table.

Grilled Steak with Oyster-Ginger Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 lbs. Thin Cut Top Sirloin (Approximately ¼ inch)
  • 3 Tbsp. Panda Brand Oyster Sauce
  • 2 Tbsp. Minced Red Onion
  • ¾ teas. Ground Ginger
  • 3 Tbsp. Sesame Oil
  • 2 Tbsp. Rice Vinegar
  • Black Pepper
  • Salt (optional)
  • 1 Cup Rice
  • 2 Cups Chicken Broth

This recipe is for the whole meal – steaks, rice, and the marinade. While there is a bit of waiting time required, once you get the prep ready on the marinade and the rice in the pot, you’ll be nearly done with the meal with less than 10 minutes of early prep.

Start by sprinkling the steaks liberally with Black Pepper and salt as well, if desired. Place the steaks in airtight container.

In a small bowl mix the Oyster Sauce, Onion, Ginger and Vinegar. Using a fork or small whisk slowly add the Sesame Oil until well blended. Pour about half of the mixture over the steaks turning to coat well. Let sit at least 20 minutes.

In the meantime, combine the rice and chicken broth in a sauce pan.  Bring to boil over medium high heat. Once the broth is boiling, reduce heat down to a simmer, cover and cook for 20 minutes. Don’t be tempted to stir or peek, it will let out the steam! When the water is absorbed remove from heat fluff with a fork and keep the lid on.

Preheat grill to high heat. Oil the grates well just before cooking the steak. The steak is thin and will only need 60-90 seconds on each side to be done to medium. It is too thin for a thermometer so cutting at the edge is the best way to tell how done it is. Remove the steaks to a plate once cooked and cover with foil for 5-10 minutes and allow to rest.

Slice the steak at an angle into pieces ½ inch wide and serve over rice with additional reserved sauce.

Using Panda Brand Oyster Sauce was a great compliment to the steaks. It gave a rich, slightly salty flavor to the sauce with just a hint of oyster flavor that came through at the end. Oyster sauce is called for in a lot of recipes, but may not be something you are used to having in your fridge. Once you give the oyster sauce a try, though, you won’t be afraid to try the many awesome recipes out there that use it! Looking for another way to use oyster sauce? Try it in stir fry!
