How to Make a Sponge Water Bomb!

This is a fun and easy craft that is inexpensive to make, too. I’m excited to show you how to make a sponge water bomb that will be perfect for taking along to play pool games for kids or start a backyard water fight! Either way, they’ll be fun for helping your kiddos to stay cool this summer!

What You’ll Need:

  • 2 sponges
  • Rubberband or Clear Elastic hair tie
  • Scissors

Will make (1) Mega Water Bomb or (2) Mini Water Bombs.

Water Bomb Directions:

  1. Cut both sponges into thirds “hot dog” style making long skinny strips to create a Mega Water Bomb. For a mini water bomb, cut on the other side of the sponge cutting 1/2″ strips to create 7-8 sticks per sponge.
  2. Stack your strips (use half of the strips per bomb if making mini water bombs) and then tie a rubberband around the center of your sponge strips. Wrap it a few times as needed so that it is tight and secure.
  3. Spread apart the sponge ends to create your water bomb.

Mega and Mini Water Bombs!

Mega Water Bombs are about 4″ while the mini water bombs are about 2.5″. Both sizes work great and size preference really just depends on the age of your children and preference. Smaller ones won’t be so heavy and will be easier for little kids to handle. See how the sizes compare:

Then, just take your water bomb out to the backyard with a pail of water and start your own water fight without the waste and time needed to fill up water balloons! Plus, since sponges absorb water they make a great water fight tool!

Aside from being a very pretty and fun project (and game!) - this idea is a quantum leap improvement over the old "water balloon" games - which are neither crafty nor creative and often cause pain and even injuries!

Love the idea - and thanks for sharing - so cute and look like they would make great cleaning tools too!
