Homebirth Supplies Checklist

So I was given a list of things to have at home for the upcoming birth – much like a “Hospital Bag” check list so I thought it’d be fun to post this as it might be an interesting read for those who probably won’t ever choose to do a home birth. I’m not positive on what all of the items are used for.
  • Baking Sheet with lip around all 4 sides
  • 2- 1 gallon size Ziploc bags
  • Flashlight with fresh batteries
  • Hand Mirror (optional)
  • Unopened Olive oil or cold pressed castor oil (Small bottle)
  • Recharge (healthy Gatorade), Vitamin Water, 100% fruite juice, Sprite/7-Up
  • Q-tips
  • Raw Honey (Small unopened jar)
  • Digital Thermometer
  • Food for mom, family and attendants
  • Chapstick
  • Shower curtain or plastic table cloth
  • Electric heating pad
  • Electric crock pot (optional)
  • 2 x-large bottles of Hydrogen peroxide
  • Car seat (ready and loaded in the car)
  • Ice
  • Emergen-C packets
  • Arnica 30C homeopathic pellets
  • Altoids or other mints
  • Small fish net
  • Two large trash bags
  • Hair Tie(s)
  • Large Feminine hygiene pads
  • 2 Baby gowns that are open at the bottom
  • 2 pairs of baby socks or botties
  • 2 cotton hats
  • Diapers
  • 1 set of old, potentially disposable sheets and pillowcases
  • 1 set of fresh sheets and pillowcases
  • 6-8 receiving blankets
  • 6-8 bath towels
  • 6-8 washcloths
  • Birth Kit (Order this)
Items in GREEN I have ready! I’m a bit slacking as I have just 2 weeks left!! Better get on to the rest of the stuff on the list!! I did pick up a pack of Newborn Diapers though over the weekend so at least I got to check that off! 🙂

The crock pot is for heating water for a warm / hot compress for the genital area. We put fresh sliced ginger in ours; I've never torn in 6 vaginal births including two babies WELL over 10 lbs.Great list, Janel.I just had my baby on the 15th. At home with a list of items very similar to yours.Make sure you get that shower curtain or table cloth. And the gatorade. What's the fish net for??? That wasn't on my list and I can't think what it would be used for.

This may be a dumb question, but why a crock pot?

Check with Robin before buying the mirror or the heating pad. I know that Connie has those and Robin probably does too. She is on call the next 2 weeks. Go to Goodwill and buy some sheets. That way you won't care about what happens to them. Very exciting. I am going to post this on facebook because I think this is interesting to people that may not know a lot about homebirth.
