Healthy School Lunches Making a Difference

Summer is quickly blowing on by and school will be back in session before we know it. My oldest will start first grade in just a month. One aspect of sending our kids off to school that is really important is the school lunch programs. The First Lady has championed a program called the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act that is making the first major changes to school meals in 15 years! The changes will help to bring a healthier generation of children.

Fuel for School Lunches Tyson

Tyson has proactively developed new products and modified their existing products to meet the new standards. They have whole grain and lower sodium products available that are ideal for school meals and create the balance between tasty food and nutrition. Tyson’s school cafeteria options will include:

  • Whole grain nuggets
  • Pepperoni crispito
  • Whole grain hamburger
  • Lighter better nugget
  • Hot’n’spicy grilled breast filet
  • Chicken pepperoni

I love seeing how committed Tyson is towards providing nutritionally balanced school meals for our children. The steps towards healthier meals at school will make a huge impact on so many children as they begin to be expect and prefer better for you foods. As a stay-at-home mom, we have had the option to pack a lunch or occasionally let my son choose to have a hot lunch. I appreciate that these changes will make the school lunches a better option and ease the concerns we parents face about school lunches. This will especially make a big impact for those families who rely on the lunch programs for financial or other reasons to really help us raise a healthy generation! Over 31.8 million children participated in the National School Lunch Program in 2011. That is a huge impact our schools can make!

Tyson does try and the kids do love their chicken nuggets. We haven't eaten them in a long time though. Maybe I should consider.

Anyway I love making my kids lunches. Seems the school lunches are much to be desired. Plus I like when my kids are full and not telling me they were hungry after lunch etc.

It will be great if the school lunches reach a healthier level... Makes it easier for the parents to if they dont have time to pack a lunch.
