5 Common Teen Problems

1. Starting to date- Well, you’re finally out of the Cooties stage and into the Cuties stage. There’s that hottie in 5th period that you hope will notice you, or maybe the hottie who sits at the table next to you at lunch. Where ever this good looking, nice, great personality person happens to be, remember, you’re still a teen.

I know at this age it seems like the end of the world if the person you like doesn’t like you back. The whole point of dating as a teen is to find out what types of qualities you want in a future spouse. So, take this wonderful time as a teenager to explore your options and see what different types of people are out there.

Don’t get serious with one person and go on group dates as much as possible. Avoid those difficult situations where you’re alone together because a wrong choice can decide the fate of the rest of your life. There’s a big sea with lots of fish and your high school is a little pond. It’s okay to not be serious with one person and to just have wholesome fun getting to know people.

2. Making Friends- I know in high school you tend to make friends with a certain group and they become your high school BFFs. That is great to have a good solid circle of friends. Just don’t discount that there are many people out there with similar interests that may become great, lifelong friends.

A good way to meet new friends is by joining clubs. If you’re having trouble making friends, or just want to make some new ones, join a club. The good thing about high school is the great diversity of clubs and classes available for whatever interests you.

Being a teen is fun. You can try out any club or sport that interests you and make some good friends doing it. In clubs, you bring together other kids with similar interests, that makes it easier to become friends. So, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Find a sport or club that interests you and start making some new friends.

3. Starting to Drive– This is the moment you have been waiting for. You finally get to have the freedom to go where you want to go. There is no more embarrassment from having your parents drop you and pick you up places. Just remember that driving is a big responsibility.

When you’re out and about driving with your friends remember to be responsible. The choices you make can have an effect on the rest of your life. Don’t try to show off or impress your friends. Just get everyone there safely. Follow the traffic rules, they’re there for a reason. Also, just because you can drive doesn’t mean you get to do whatever you want.

4. Peer Pressure- You will encounter this problem at least once in your teenage life. It doesn’t matter where you are or what you are doing, someone will try to get you to do something you don’t want to do or think is right. Whether it’s taking part in bullying or drugs and alcohol. The main thing to remember here is that if your friends keep pressuring you to do something you are uncomfortable doing, then they aren’t true friends.

A true friend will respect your decision not to do something and not try to get you to do something you are not comfortable doing. If you are hanging out with friends that constantly pressure you to do things that your uncomfortable doing then see problem #2 and start making some new friends.

5. Dealing with Acne- One of the hardest and most embarrassing things about growing up is the changes your body goes through. There’s growth spurts and facial hair and of course acne.

Sometimes, acne is hormonal and/or genetic. But the bottom line is, none of us like having acne. There are things you can do to help treat acne and lessen it. Just keep in mind that most people go through it and you are not alone. Most people also grow out of it.

While you’re going through it though, you can help by trying these things:

  • Try not to touch your face during the day. Your hands are dirty and will not help your acne problem.
  • Keep your hair clean. Oils and dirt from your hair won’t help acne either.
  • Resist the urge to pick at it. This goes with the don’t touch your face thing. Also, picking can help spread the acne more than leaving it alone. It can also cause bad acne scars.
  • Make sure your face is clean. Be sure to wash your face in the morning and at night with an acne fighting soap. When you’re out at school and not near a sink, use the new OXY On-The-Go Acne Stick.

"Being a teenager is difficult. " Tell me about it. Been there, done that. Now as a mom to teens, it's like deja vu but in a different way. If what's on your list are the only things we need to worry about for our teens, then we are having a field day. Unfortunately, some parents and teens deal with more serious stuff like drugs, bullying and depression. Not to mention the stress of social media. Whatever the situation/problem they are in, letting them know we are there for them will help see them through. And good to know there's already OXY On-The-Go Acne Stick. That sounds really convenient.
