6 Busy Mom Hacks to Make Life Easier

My life is a lot like a 3 ring circus and I’m the world’s worst juggler. I keep trying to keep all of these balls in the air, but I feel like I drop the ball more times than a juggler should. If your life is anything like mine, you have a few kids and a lot of responsibility. I’m typically good at planning my days and keeping on top of things, but like everyone else, sometimes the needs of life become way more than one woman can handle. Even if I do think I’m Super Woman.

I sometimes find myself forgetting important events or having trouble focusing on my work when there is too much going on. When life gets busy, I have found several busy mom hacks to do that help me keep all of those juggling balls in the air and less of them on the floor.

Put it on the calendar. In my house, if something isn’t on the calendar, it doesn’t exist. With three kids who have different schedules,  It’s a must. I use the calendar on my phone all the time. As soon as a new event or appointment comes up, it goes right into the calendar on my phone. The nifty thing about the phone’s calendar is that you can set a reminder alarm to sound. You can even put all the information you need in there. Things like addresses to where your appointment is at or even a phone number. Technology is great, try using it to make life easier.

Simplify your life. If you’re having a really rough time keeping up, try to simplify your life. Is everything you need to do really that important? Each kid does not need to be in a sport at the same time. Try alternating seasons. Do you really need to say yes to helping out at the Fall Festival this year? If you are stressing yourself out by taking on too much, then you need to figure out how to say no. There has to be a good balance in your life, with room to take care of you and your interests. If not, then you run yourself ragged and there is nothing left to give anyone else.

Make lists. Maybe this is just the accountant in me, but I like lists. If I have a lot of things to do and I am having trouble remembering them, I write them down. That way, I can work off of my list and cross things off as I go. I sometimes even order it by importance. That way, I make sure that the most important things get the attention first. If my list consists of driving around, I make my list according to what’s on the way, so I drive more of a straight line and less of a maze.

Ask for help. Even if you think you are Super Woman, sometimes life is too much. Don’t be too proud to get help from the people around you. If you’re single or your man is busy, maybe try asking one of the mom’s in the neighborhood or at church to help with carpools. Ask for some help with whatever chore or running around you have to do. Be willing to return the favor to a busy parent who helps you though, in the future.

Prepare for the week. I know when I have a busy week ahead, I try to get things ready beforehand as much as possible. Do things like preparing meals for the week, ahead of time. Utilize that crock pot, or make a few casseroles over the weekend that you can just plop in the oven. Put the kids’ outfits in gallon sized bags so they’re together and ready to just put on. No more hunting for socks. Anything you can do or get together in the beginning of the week, to make the rest of the week run smoother.

Take care of you. Most of the time, when we’re dropping balls and forgetting stuff, it’s because we’re doing too much and not taking care of ourselves. Be sure that you are taking time out of your busy week to do something for yourself. You should also be sure that you are taking vitamins and eating right to help keep your body healthy and functioning at its best.
