PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend + Giveaway

We accept a variety of samples and/or compensation for links, posts, and other campaigns. Refer to the bottom of the post and our site-wide disclosure policy for full details.

Celebrate the season – and save a life – by adopting a pet into your family during the PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend, sponsored by PetSmart®, from November 2-4 at your neighborhood PetSmart store. Together with more than 2,000 U.S., Canadian and Puerto Rican animal welfare organizations, PetSmart Charities hopes to find homes for thousands of wonderful adoptable dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.

Nearly 8 million pets end up in U.S. shelters every year, and half – about 11,000 every day – are euthanized. PetSmart Charities’ programs, including National Adoption Weekend, are made possible through donations. Just $25 saves the life of a healthy, adoptable pet and funds programs focused on giving these pets a second chance. Donations can be made online, by email at gifts@petsmartcharities.org or by calling 623-587-2826.

“Not only does an adoptable pet bring joy to our lives, but adoption is one of the key ways to end pet homelessness,” said Susana Della Maddalena, executive director of PetSmart Charities, Inc. “While adoption is one piece of the solution, we know not everyone is able to adopt. You can help celebrate saving a pet’s life with a donation that will fund adoption events like this that have played a role in finding homes for more than 5 million pets.”

During National Adoption Weekend, animal-welfare organizations will be on-site at all 1,250 PetSmart stores in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. These events are proudly sponsored by PetSmart, Purina® Pro Plan® and Tidy Cats® (MAXX Scoop® in Canada).  As an added incentive, participating local shelters and rescue agencies will receive $35 in adoption-reward grants from PetSmart Charities for every pet they adopt during the event.

“We are committed to saving the lives of homeless pets by donating space in every PetSmart store nationwide for pet adoptions. Together with PetSmartCharities, we’re truly making a difference one life at a time,” said John Alpaugh, chief marketing officer, PetSmart. “And to ensure these pets find happy, forever homes, our stores offer a wide selection of products and services to help pet parents care for the newest member of the family – everything from food and apparel to training classes and grooming.”

How to Adopt

Visit the PetSmart Charities’ adoption center inside any PetSmart store in the U.S., Canada or Puerto Rico from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2 and Saturday, Nov. 3; and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4. About Ashleigh

Ashleigh is a mom of five children ages 4-14. She loves to keep active by running, playing volleyball, P90X and chasing her kids around! She also enjoys Bunko, playing and teaching piano, cooking, ping-pong, getting packages, watching Netflix, and trying out new stuff! She loves being a mom and sometimes feels like a 12-year-old kid when she gets to try out new toys and games with her kiddos :)

We have adopted pets from a shelter and donated also. We have two dogs now and I love them and would never let them be mistreated. It breaks my heart to see anything being mistreated.

You can adopt a pet. I have adopted 4 and they are all spayed and neutered. I love my dogs and they are treated like kings and queens. They will never know what it is to be hungry, be cold and wet, sleep outside alone, or to live in fear (except for my boxer/bull mastiff rescue who gets scared when the buzzer for the dryer goes off, the sprinkler catches him, you cough too loud….the list goes on and on, but we love him for it)

I have donated, I also belong to online groups that share info about dogs and cats in need of a home, I have steered people looking for a pet to an appropriate rescue, I donate to local rescues and to our county shelter so that dogs can be held there longer for adoption or rescue. I have NEVER purchased a pup or kitten, I always adopt and currently have 5 rescue pets in our home!

I really like the idea of not only giving a portion of your checks every month, but making a bequest after you pass away. Animals are very important to me and reading this gave me a wonderful idea of using some of my money for good even after I am gone.

I wish I could adopt a cat and dog but I live in an apt where no pets are allowed. I can keep all the animals in my prayers and hope more get adopted. Come on people get your pets spayed or neutered so there aren’t so many animals being put down. My daughter has 3 dogs and 1 cat. One was a foster that they adopted and one was a stray they adopted. They adopted their cat also. Thank you for the fun gift! :)
