Linnea in Monet’s Garden Book Review & Giveaway

We accept a variety of samples and/or compensation for links, posts, and other campaigns. Refer to the bottom of the post and our site-wide disclosure policy for full details.

To celebrate the book’s 25th anniversary, Sourcebooks is bringing Linnea in Monet’s Garden back to print this October to delight a new generation! Young readers join Linnea on her art-inspired adventure in France: visiting Monet’s garden, standing on his famous Japanese bridge, gazing at the water lilies, stopping by Notre Dame, watching the sun rise over the Seine, and stepping into the colorful world of the impressionists.

Along with lighthearted watercolors, the pages are filled with reproductions of Monet’s paintings, family photographs, and personal notes from Linnea’s scrapbook that bring art history to life. In a newly enlarged trim size, the anniversary edition also includes a family tree and updated things to do and see in Paris.

Linnea has been in Paris. And she has visited the painter Claude Monet’s garden! She even stood on the same little Japanese bridge that Monet painted so often in his pictures. In Paris, Linnea got to see many of the real paintings.  Now she can understand what it means to be called an Impressionist, and she knows a lot about Monet’s life in the pink house where he lived with his eight children.

Twenty-five years after its original publication, this celebration of the wonder of art is available once again in an enlarged keepsake edition. The joy and inspiration Linnea discovers in Monet’s garden will be eagerly embraced by a new generation of readers.

I had heard of this Linnea book and seen it in stores, but I had never had a chance to read it until now!  I was excited to share the beautiful artwork and story with my five and six year old girls.  I was worried that this book would be a little long for them, but they really enjoyed the gorgeous Monet paintings and the cute adventures of Linnea and Mr. Bloom.  I thought Linnea in Monet’s Garden was just as much for me as it was for them!  The information and pictures of Paris were interesting, and I love how Linnea looked as if she was actually in the illustrations!  We all learned a lot about art and what it means to be an Impressionist!  My daughters had never even heard of that term, and I was thankful to be able to teach them a little about one of the greatest artists to ever live!  This book had been an amazing addition to our picture book collection and I would recommend it to anyone!

Linnea in Monet’s Garden Book can be purchased on the Sourcebooks website or Amazon.  It is 48 pages long and retails for $16.99.
