PetSmart’s new Toys “R” Us Pet Play Collection has toys that help stimulate a pet’s intellectual growth.   This new collection has toys for every dog whether they are in their puppy years, or adulthood.  These bright new toys will stimulate their senses, keep them busy for hours and help their emotional development.  Here are descriptions of five of these fantastic toys:

Toys“R”Us Pets Vinyl Tire and Rope Animal ($8.99):
What it is: It’s a chewy, crunchy squeaky toy all in one – and features rope and tire “hands.”
What it does for your pet: It keeps them entertained. “Puppies often have a short attention
span for individual toys,” says Dr. Sophia Yin, veterinary and animal behavior expert on behalf
of PetSmart. “So having a toy with different textures and surfaces will keep your puppy
engaged for longer periods of time.”

Toys“R”Us Pets Wacky Water Bottle Cruncher ($7.99):
What it is: This “wacky” character conceals a crackly, crunchy water bottle wrapped in soft plush.  What it does for your pet: “Engaging puppies with a variety of toys is important for cognitive development because neurons are forming at this stage,” Dr. Yin says. “This toy’s unique, crunchy texture, crackly sound and convenient tubular shape can engage both puppies and adult dogs.”

Toys“R”Us Pets Patterned Body Canvas Caterpillar ($8.99):
What it is: This whimsical, cute caterpillar is designed with fun patterns, has a body
made of squeakers and is safe to throw and tug.  What it does for your pet: “Many puppies and adult dogs are naturally attracted to squeaky toys — it gets their attention and the sound may mimic sounds that trigger their hunting desire,” Dr. Yin says. “It’s just another way to engage them in doing something that’s natural to them. For dogs who love the sound, toys with five to six squeakers are a jackpot.”

Toys“R”Us Pets Dumbbell Treat ($2.99):
What it is: A chewy dumbbell-shaped toy that has room for treats to be hidden inside.  During the early stages of a puppies’ life, problem-solving toys provide enrichment.  What it does for your pet: “Toys that promote problem-solving such as food toy dispensers can improve brain development in puppies and slow down brain aging changes and onset of cognitive dysfunction in adult dogs,” Dr. Yin says.

Toys“R”Us Double Loop Tennis Ball/Tug Rope Toy ($12.99):
What it is: A fun tug toy with two options for holding – a rubber ball on one end and a tennis ball on the other – to make game-playing fun and encourage pet-parent bonding.  What it does for your pet: “Tug and fetch games can teach dogs impulse control if pet parents simply wait for pups to sit politely before each toss or bout of tug,” says Dr. Yin. “When people play the game this way, the dog learns polite behavior while having fun.”
After getting these amazing toys I was so excited to give them to our puppies!  I thought they would go crazy and play with the them for hours the second I gave the toys to them.  I was wrong!  They were scared and just backed away.  After leaving the room they sniffed around and then decided they were really fun!  So I went and got my camera to capture all the fun.  They decided, again, that they didn’t want anything to do with them and went after the camera.  I tried spying on them several times a day to get a good video.  I knew they were playing with the toys because after less than a week they were filthy and I would always find them on opposite sides of the yard!  Apparently they have a sixth sense whenever I get my camera out!  I finally got the short video above after about a week of trying :)   They LOVE all five of the toys…especially the Wacky Water Bottle Crusher.  What a great idea!  We have to replace the bottle all the time!  I would recommend the Toys “R” Us Pet Play Collection to dogs of all ages.  They are bright, colorful, well made and your dog will love them!

The Toys “R” Us Pet Play Collection are available exclusively at PetSmart and retail for $2.99 and up.
