Horrid Henry – the original British bad boy – has a pretty busy life as he tries to live up to his name. In Horrid Henry and the Zombie Vampire, Henry tricks Perfect Peter into handing over all his money; terrorizes his classmates at a school sleepover in the museum with tales of zombie vampires; steals one of Perfect Peter’s stories and “improves” it to get out of writing his own for Miss Battle-Axe; and meets the Nudie Foodie, a celebrity chef, who comes to the school to improve school lunches. No more burgers or french fries! Horrid Henry isn’t going to put up with that without a fight!
I finally found a book that my 8-year-old and I could enjoy together! He really struggles with reading, mostly because he had no interest whatsoever, so when I found out how much he liked Horrid Henry I was ecstatic! Henry sort of reminds me of my son…”horrid” attitude, tough on the outside and soft and sweet once you break through. My son’s favorite part of the book was ready all of the things that Henry says. I just have to remind him that just because Henry said it doesn’t make it okay! Luckily, he is old enough to remember that! It is a great book for explaining to my son how making bad choices/saying bad things, especially when it involves your family is not a great idea and doesn’t result in something fun happening! My son is going into 3rd grade next year and Horrid Henry will definitely be part of our summer reading program!
Horrid Henry and the Zombie Vampire is available on Amazon or your local bookstore. It retails for $4.99 and would be perfect for ages 7-12.
