What’s in a Name? by WhitePages! Plus Amazon Giveaway!

We accept a variety of samples and/or compensation for links, posts, and other campaigns. Refer to the bottom of the post and our site-wide disclosure policy for full details.

WhitePages recently updated one of their sites, WhitePages Names. Names is a fun and interactive site that let’s you browse and search for names and find naming inspiration, pronunciation help, learn about what names are the most popular, and even a discover section that lets you find names in popularity by city, state, year, and even by meaning! This site is packed with fun tools and is a great place to go to search for baby name inspiration or just to find out more information about a particular name!

WhitePages Names

I had a lot of fun playing around on WhitePages Names. I loved the discover section on name meanings! They show you a random selection of 15 name meanings with things like “Drop of the sea”, “Powerful and strong” or “Famous and bright” and you could try to guess what name you thought that was describing and click to see if you were right. I wondered what “Drop of the sea” meant and so I clicked on it to check out more about this name to find out it represented a common name I would never have guessed, Mary! Names then gives you a brief historical and meaning description along with lots of other cool facts. Did you know that “Mary” was the 6th most popular US name in 2011? Or, that MILLIONS of people in the US have this name? Another fun fact, 65 percent of the people named Mary are 55 or older!

I know I will be back to WhitePages Names whenever I’m looking for more details on a name or ready to brainstorm baby names again! Plus, they even have a fun “Name of the Day” you can check out daily!

Of uncertain derivation. Stacey and Stace are recorded as given names in the Middle Ages, probably pet forms of Eustace. The medieval name seems to have fallen out of use by the 16th century, and the modern given name is probably a transferred use of the surname, which is likewise derived from Eustace. It is not clear why this name should have become so common in the 1970s and 80s as a girl’s name .
