Beginning as a parlor game in the early 1900s and originally titled The Landlord’s Game, the game didn’t catch on until the 1934 Christmas season when 5,000 privately-printed copies quickly sold out at a Philadelphia department store, attracting the attention and interest of Parker Brothers, a toy and game manufacturer. The rest, as they say, is history. Now licensed and sold in over 26 languages and 80 countries, Monopoly has never been more popular, and with new versions appearing almost monthly, shows no sign of diminishing.
Our family collects Monopoly games so I was thrilled to check out Monopoly Gamer! There were so many different editions I had never even heard of! We were able to try out the America Monopoly Special Edition. The best part about this edition? It had these really cool corner pieces that change up the game a little. It actually made it a lot more fun! The corner pieces are optional, so you can take them off if you don’t want to use them…but you will! One of them lets you “gamble” to pay off your Jail Fee, another lets you answer trivia questions about America and depending on how many you get right in a row, you may get to move to anywhere on the board! There is also one that may give you a free property! I loved the trivia questions. We learned a ton of random facts about America’s history while we were playing. I would recommend Monopoly Gamer for any Monopoly enthusiast or someone who just likes a great twist on a well loved game! Go see if your favorite character is there!
Monopoly Gamer carries a HUGE variety of classic to modern Monopoly versions. Check it out to see if you favorite character is there!
