The Dukan Diet is the famed weight loss plan created by French medical doctor Dr. Pierre Dukan (some say it’s the real reason the French stay thin!) With the success of The Dukan Diet book where millions of dieters around the world have used to achieve long-term weight loss, Dr. Dukan will be releasing the Dukan Diet Cookbook (Crown Archetype, On-Sale March 2012).

The Dukan Diet Cookbook provides over 350 French-inspired recipes – from Crispy Chicken Wings and Ham Soufflé to Turkey Meatballs with Rosemary and Mint, Mussels Provencal and Curried Turnip Soup to Flourless Chocolate Cake and a Vanilla Cookie for dessert. The DukanDiet itself consists of four distinct phases: Attack, Cruise, Consolidation and Permanent Stabilization and rejects counting calories or restricted portions – - you can eat as much as you like among certain foods! Another difference from other diets is that The Dukan Diet offers online coaching for your personal needs.

I was excited to try a new diet, as I had been stagnant in my weight loss for quite some time, even though I had been trying to count calories and exercise. The Dukan Diet book explained everything very clearly and gave solid reasoning behind every step of the program. The majority of the diet basically limits you to protein (including non-fat dairy) vegetables, and oat bran. I’m not going to lie, the first few days were extremely hard, and my body seemed to be in a little bit of a shock, but it is what I needed! I have only been on the diet for 2 weeks now and already lost 8 pounds! I feel great because I am eating healthy and continuing to exercise. An example day of what I have been eating would include: a yogurt and hard boiled for breakfast, grilled chicken salad for lunch, and fish or steak with veggies for dinner, with the oat bran as a snack during some point in the day. I am not worried about gaining the weight back because once I reach my target weight there is a specific system to slowing reintroduce fruits, grains, etc. I finally feel like I have a plan to stick to and it is working!
