Sparq was born out of a soapstone import and fabrication business, Dorado Soapstone. When the founders of Sparq realized the mass of scrap soapstone that was left behind from their kitchen countertop business that was ending up in the landfill they set out to craft other purposes for it. Soapstone has long been known for it’s ability to retain temperature, both heat and cold. The soapstone starts in Brazil and is imported to the USA for use making kitchen countertops. Then, Sparq steps in and picks up the scrap pieces to recycle and re-purpose into useable products.

The Sparq Soapstone Griddle/Grill is a patent pending design that can transform your cooktop into an indoor grill. It can be used on the griddle side indoors on your stovetop to cook eggs, pancakes, fish, veggies, and more. Then, you can try it out as a baking sheet in your oven to cook cookies, pizza and more. The soapstone give a uniform heat distribution so the entire surface will cook evenly using relatively low heat. Then, take your soapstone outside to the grill and use it grill side up right on your grilling rack to create an even heat source for your foods and cook like the pros! When your soapstone is not in use it can easily double as a cutting board as well!

We were able to try out Sparq’s Soapstone Griddle/Grill. I tried it first on top of my glass stovetop to make some pancakes. I didn’t think to grease the pan so the pancakes ended up sticking and it just didn’t work out too well. The next time we went to try it, though, we used it on our Barbecue to make hamburgers. My husband is a good cook but his hamburgers are never cooked all the way through. We put the Sparq grill out on our barbeque to heat up and then sprayed it with non-stick spray to ensure the hamburgers wouldn’t stick. Then, when the soapstone grill plate was hot, he put on his hamburger patties and let them cook. They cooked really well on the Sparq soapstone grill and it was the FIRST time I have had home cooked hamburgers cooked all the way through since I’ve been married! They were SO good!! Plus, all the mess and grease was contained right on the Sparq grill plate so I didn’t have any mess left over on the grill. It was easy to grab the Sparq grill plate when it had cooled to clean it in the sink. I’m looking forward to finding more ways to use the soapstone griddle around my home. I’ve already been using nearly daily as a cutting board and/or trivet for hot pans to safely rest on.
