“Saving Savvy: Smart and Easy Ways to Cut Your Spending in Half and Raise Your Standard of Living…and Giving” Book Review & Giveaway

Saving Savvy: Smart and Easy Ways to Cut Your Spending in Half and Raise Your Standard of Living…and Giving was written by the popular money-saving expert Kelly Hancock.  After her first child, she decided to take a leap of faith and quit her high-paying job as a sales rep for a Fortune 500 Company to be a full time stay-at-home mom.  “As excited as I was to stay home, I really dreaded the financial impact on our lives,” says Kelly. “I was bringing home half of our income, and without it, we were barely going to get by each month.”  She decided to start budgeting and began to see how much money was being wasted on “non-essentials”.  It wasn’t until her husband was laid off in 2009 that the “cost-cutting” adventure truly began.  What started as e-mails to help others reduce their spending amounts, turned into live workshops, then into a full fledged website, FaithfulProvisions.com.  A short two-years later, it is one of the most popular money-saving blogs on the internet!  Here are just a few of the money saving tips you will learn in Saving Savvy: Smart and Easy Ways to Cut Your Spending in Half and Raise Your Standard of Living…and Giving

  • Define your personal “saving style,” via a special spending-style quiz
  • Navigate grocery sales
  • Use coupons strategically
  • Plan meals wisely
  • Teach your children money and budgeting principles
  • Live generously

After just the first few chapters, I decided that this book was written especially for me!  It seems like no matter how much we make, we are still struggling to get by.  My husband got a raise at the beginning of the school year, and I started teaching piano out of my home again, and we are still living paycheck to paycheck!  I don’t have a clue how we made it by before…oh wait I do….credit cards!!!  I felt like we were starting the same cycle all over again when I started reading Saving Savvy.  It really opened my eyes and helped me figure out where our money was going!  Do I really need to eat at McDonald’s every single day when a delicious can of Spaghetti O’s only costs 50 cents? NO!  Can coupons that are only worth about a dollar really help you save money each month?  YES!  I don’t think I will ever have the time to sift through 6 newspapers and go to 5 different stores to get the best deals, but with this book you don’t have to!  I am already reading it through a second time to get everything ingrained in my head so I don’t slip back to the same old habits I had before.  It literally sits on my nightstand and it is the first book I pick up if I have a few extra minutes.  I would recommend this book to ANYONE who feels like they could use some extra money each month and wants get back on track!  Saving Savvy: Smart and Easy Ways to Cut Your Spending in Half and Raise Your Standard of Living…and Giving has benefited my family tremendously and I know it can help yours too!

Saving Savvy can be purchased on Amazon or Barnes and Noble.  It retails for $16.99.
