Pampered Chef’s Microwave Chip Maker is one of their latest products that makes cooking chips simple and fun! Their Chip Maker uses no oils or fats so you create a low-fat alternative that doesn’t include frying! The Chip Maker comes as a set of two silicone trays that can be used separately or stacked. You can use many different types of vegetables and fruits such as potatoes, apples, sweet potatoes! To use the Chip Maker, simply slice your small to medium sized vegetables or fruit into thin slices (1/32″ or Setting 1 on Pampered Chef’s Simple Slicer). Then, place the slices on a paper towel and season lightly with salt on one or both sides. Blot top of slices with another paper towel to remove any excess moisture and then arrange the slices in a single layer across the chip maker. Cook the chips in a microwave with a built-in turntable and follow the cooking time chart for approximate cooking times!
We attempted making both potato chips and apple chips. The apple chips I cooked slightly too long so they had a few brown spots on them but they actually turned out really good on the chips that didn’t overheat. They were much softer then store bought apple chips so I was actually able to get my boys to try them! This makes for a really fun and different way to serve apples and I think they’d be great for packing in school lunches! The potato chips I don’t think I cooked long enough. I cooked them the longest period of the time range but they weren’t crunchy or crispy at all, they were really soft. As they weren’t cooked with oil they still had quite a potato taste but with some of the seasonings they weren’t so bad. I think these trays have a bit of a learning curve as you learn just the right thickness and cook time you prefer. Overall though, they were really fun to try and we will be attempting tortilla chips next!
