With back to school around the corner, style is a big concern to some kids! Kids everywhere are dreaming or maybe even doodling up what styles they would love to be wearing come the start of school. My 4.5 year old will not be starting school this year as he just misses the cutoff with a fall birthday but he will very likely be starting preschool so a back to school wardrobe has been on my mind! My son hasn’t up to this point had much of an opinion when I take him to the store but I’m hoping to take him on a mommy-son date to pick out some styles that he thinks are cool and comfortable!
So far, my 4.5 year olds’ style has been based on picking and choosing between what he likes best from his drawer. He does have a lot of personality and likes to pair the oddest styles together, like pairing shorts with long sleeves and hot winter pants with cool t-shirts. I always laugh at the combination he comes up with. Sometimes, his clothes will end up on backwards as well! With him still being quite young he doesn’t have a huge influence on what clothes I buy for him, but he certainly does have an opinion whenever it is time to pick out his clothes. He loves clothing that is interactive and has something he can show-off! His favorite shirt pictures a mummy with a zipper for his mouth. When you unzip the zipper there is a small coin pocket and inside says “I love mummy”. He LOVES stashing a coin or two in there and showing it off to everyone who will listen: “Hey, look, my shirt has a zipper! Do you want to know what it says?”
My 2.5 year old has been dressing himself for the last 6 months or so. He actually ends up changing about 5 times (or more) a day and LOVES to sport his brother’s Baseball T-shirt!! He also often goes through his jammies draw to find the perfect pair to wear, but he most often asks to wear his pajamas in the middle of the day! He loves shirts with trucks, sports, or any kind of animal pictured! He is absolutely an accessories kid and loves to wear around his backpack, my necklaces, or even his dad’s watch!
