This game I have actually played since I was a kid! I grew up playing it with my brothers and then about 3 years ago we got back into playing it with my In Law’s anytime we’d be up there to visit. It had been a really hard game to find, though I did eventually find an old copy at a Garage sale and picked it up for myself! I really love Mille Bornes!! It is REALLY fun as a 4 player game as you play on teams and the competition is really fun but you don’t get “stuck” as much as you do in a 2 or 3 player game. This is actually still a good game with 2 or 3 players, you just have to be aware that sometimes you might get stuck without a move for several (or many!) times drawing and that can be a bit frustrating. The idea of the game is you have to “drive” 1000 miles and the first who does wins the round. Through out the round though you might have an opponent give you a “flat tire” or other such card that makes you unable to “drive” any further until you remedy the problem! This is a staple game to any game collection!
This game takes the dice game Yahtzee and turns it into a more competitive (rather than a more co-play) game. In traditional Yahtzee there wasn’t much competition other than of course your final scoring but nothing to compete towards where as in this card game you are each competing to win one of 6 goals you can aim for such as “4 of a kind” or “Large straight”. Each of these are assigned a point value and when someone goes to claim one of the goals you try to score for a higher goal then them or else beat them in a tie breaker for the same goal! I thought the game was fun and easy to play but was disappointed when my husband won our 2 player game from getting the “Chance” cards when I had won 4 out of the 6 goals. I’m not sure if I’d play a 2 player game including the chance cards again as it didn’t seem equally weighted for a 2 player game. Another idea we may try is adding in more goals (there are 12 total – 2 of each) like say include 9 goals but stop the game once 6 of the goals have been taken to avoid the last round or two where you are competing for the same goal.
Sorry Revenge is very different then Sorry to me. The only few aspects that feel the same are the “Slide” cards which is a familiar aspect to Sorry and the pawn cards themselves. Otherwise you work competitively to be the one to stop the discard pile at exactly 21 points. There are several bonus types of cards that mix up the game and of course Sorry! cards which allow you to “steal” a win from your opponent. It was a simple and overall fun game, but really didn’t feel like Sorry! to me. I don’t think this game is very well suited to 2 players either as it was very much luck based in an only 2 player game. I think it would be fun with 3 or more players though and look forward to trying it again soon!
As you may have heard Hasbro promotes having a Family Game Night! I recommend picking up one of their great Card games (especially Mille Bornes) and gather the family around to play a game!
