10 Ways to Keep Kids Healthy and Active This Summer

School is out for summer break and I love having my kids home with me. I always want summer to be a fun time that they look forward to, but it can be so easy to let it turn into a movie marathon. During the school year kids have school sports, P.E., and recess to ensure that they are up and active at least a little bit every day. Here are 10 ways to help keep your kids healthy and active this summer:

1-Plan a Park Day: Pick a Day of the week that is park day, each week try a new park in your city or town. Getting out of the house and trying new things is good for everyone!

2-Pick a Sport: Have your kids pick one summer sport they would like to try or be a part of. I don’t like our summers to become over scheduled, but I do like them to participate in at least one sport while school is out. Swim team is our favorite.

3-Keep Healthy Snacks on Hand: I get asked for a snack a million times a day over summer break. Keeping healthy items accessible and junk food to a minimum will help your kids learn to reach for the good stuff when they get hungry.

4-Explore Outside: Find a walking path or hike that is age appropriate for your kids and get outside! Soak up the sun and explore the world around you!

5- Learn Something New: Keep brains active and healthy by finding somewhere to learn something new. Head to the zoo or local museum, pick an animal to study, or learn the history of your city. Whatever you choose, let your kids lead the way, when they are excited about what they are learning they will be more engaged.

6- Plant a Garden: Planting a garden is a great way to get outside and get moving. Your kids will love seeing their favorite flowers, fruits, and veggies popping up though the ground.

7- Plan a Trip: Summer vacations are a must, pick a destination your whole family is excited about. Maybe even let each child plan a part of the trip.

8- Hit the Pool or Splash Pad: When it is really hot, getting outside can be tough. Head to your local pool or splash pad for some refreshingly cool fun in the sun.

9- Cook Together: Kids don’t always love healthy food options, but they are usually more willing to try something they helped make. Whip up some delicious healthy meals together and start some new healthy eating habits.

10- Use A Multivitamin: Did you know to meet the recommended daily intake of fruits & vegetables, moderately active girls and boys would need to eat 1.5 cups of fruit and 2-3 cups of vegetables a day?  L’il Critters™, the #1 Kids Gummy Vitamin brand is a fun and delicious way to support your kid’s healthy habits. Plus, they have no high fructose corn syrup, no synthetic dyes, and they are gluten free.
